Medify is a medical education company helping aspiring medical students succeed. We support learners preparing for the UCAT, GAMSAT, medical school interviews, A-levels, and more - providing the tools, structure, and guidance they need to achieve their goals.
đŻ The RoleWeâre looking for an Illustrator to own our illustration function - combining handsâon creative work with strategic oversight. This is a highâimpact role sitting at the intersection of craft, systems, and education.
Youâll spend the majority of your time creating illustrations yourself, particularly skillâbased educational visuals, icons, and marketing illustrations, while also managing external contractors, defining style guidelines, and maintaining visual consistency across the product.
Our platform is textâheavy by nature, so illustrations play a critical role. They must clarify complex concepts, guide students through challenging material, and make learning more engaging and effective This role is ideal for someone who enjoys translating abstract ideas into clear, compelling visual communication.
What Youâll Do đš Create Illustrations (60â80%)- Skillâbased educational illustrations:
Visualise study strategies, exam approaches, timeâmanagement techniques, and mnemonics. This work is highly conceptual and iterative. - Icon & emoji system:
Own and evolve our library of ~300 icons used across topics and courses. Icons must remain clear at small sizes (24px) while scaling effectively. - Marketing & product illustrations:
Produce illustrations for the website, empty states, and key product moments. - AIâassisted content:
Use tools such as Midjourney for blog and concept illustrations, with postâprocessing in Photoshop. AI is used for rapid prototyping and exploration â not as a replacement for craft.
- Define and maintain illustration style guides and visual systems
- Review illustration work flagged by the learning team and provide clear feedback
- Write highâquality briefs for skillâbased illustrations assigned to contractors
- Onboard and manage a roster of external illustrators
- Coordinate with 3â5 contractors, primarily focused on scientific illustrations and diagrams
- Work closely with the learning/content team, your primary stakeholders
- Partner with product designers to ensure illustrations integrate smoothly into the interface
- Maintain illustration assets across formats (Illustrator for learning content, Figma for product work)
- Strong conceptual illustration skills:
Ability to turn complex, abstract ideas into clear, instructional visuals - Tool proficiency:
Confident working in Adobe Illustrator and Figma - Pragmatic use of AI:
Comfortable using AI tools (e.g. Midjourney) as part of the creative workflow - Systems thinking:
Experience building or maintaining style guides, icon libraries, or visual systems - Autonomy:
Comfortable owning decisions, direction, and workload - Collaboration:
Able to work effectively with nonâdesigners and iterate based on feedback - Portfolio:
Demonstrates strong conceptual thinking and visual problemâsolving (educational work is a plus)
- Experience in EdTech, medical/scientific illustration, or educational content
- Experience managing freelancers or contractors
- Understanding of designing for both smallâscale and largeâscale usage
- Interest in medical education or helping students succeed
Our hiring process includes a paid work trial, where youâll complete a skillâbased illustration challenge. This allows us to see how approach communicating complex ideas visually - and for you to experience the kind of work youâd be doing at Medify.
đ Why Medify?Youâll have full ownership of the illustration function, the autonomy to evolve our visual systems, and the opportunity to create work that directly supports students in achieving their medical school ambitions. This role offers a rare balance of handsâon creative work and strategic impact in a missionâdriven, fully remote team.
đ What We Offer- Competitive salary aligned to experience and role scope
- Fully remote working with flexibility around hours and location (UKâbased)
- 25 daysâ annual leave, rising to 28 days with tenure
- Pension scheme
- Private health and dental care after one year of employment
- Professional development support, including learning budgets and skills growth
- A highâautonomy role with genuine ownership over a core creative function
