About the Role:

Global News is looking for a talented and driven Online Producer based in Winnipeg to join our multi‑market digital team.

In this fast‑paced role, you will help shape the voice of , producing timely, impactful, and original stories that resonate with audiences in Winnipeg and nationwide. You’ll break local news, dive into trending topics, and craft high‑quality digital content that sparks conversation and drives engagement.

Reporting to the Network Managing Editor, Local Online, you’ll work closely with colleagues in the Global Winnipeg newsroom and across the country to deliver compelling multi‑platform storytelling that informs and inspires. The successful candidates must be flexible to work a variety of shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

This is a Group 4 position under the current collective agreement.

You will contribute by:
  • Pitch, report, and write original local stories — from breaking news to deep‑dive features.
  • Spot and shape trending stories, turning complex topics into accessible, engaging content.
  • Produce multi‑platform content including articles, video, visuals, and interactive features.
  • Collaborate with digital and broadcast teams to amplify stories locally and nationally.
  • Adapt and repurpose wire copy for Canadian audiences, applying SEO best practices.
  • Use tools such as Word Press (CMS), CP News Pro, Getty/CP photo databases, and live blogging platforms.
  • Help develop creative ways to integrate broadcast and digital content for a seamless audience experience.
Skills and experience you will bring:
  • Post‑secondary education in journalism, broadcasting, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience producing digital content in a newsroom environment.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and headline‑writing skills.
  • Strong editorial judgment and the ability to find the local angle in any story.
  • Experience covering breaking news and delivering content quickly and accurately.
  • Familiarity with CP style, SEO strategies, and digital audience trends.
  • Versatility across formats: text, video, social, photo‑based and interactive content.
  • A collaborative mindset, curiosity, and passion for storytelling.
