The Illinois Policy Institute, a premier state-based, free-market think tank, is seeking an editor to ensure timely production of high-quality policy articles and other content. The role will support original research and deliver perspectives from the state's strongest taxpayer advocate by ensuring content is succinct, consumable and accurate and conforms to AP style.
The editor will work as a crucial part of the marketing and communications team in the successful execution of issue campaigns, policy reports, investigations, fundraising materials and more.
- Lead as a content editor, ensuring all Illinois Policy Institute materials are easily understood and engaging
- Serve as primary copy editor, ensuring all reports, articles and other content conform to AP and organizational style
- Ensure timely delivery of all content
- Train and coach policy writers and team members on best practices for editing, writing and drafting headlines
- Guide the editorial and policy teams in communicating ideas effectively
- Assign and facilitate production of development materials and investigative research
- Regularly produce original writing and research
- Experience with manipulating and explaining large data sets
- Curiosity about or interest in developing knowledge of state and local policy in Illinois
Range of $65,000 to $90,000 base salary, commensurate with experience. Eligible for performance-based bonus on top of base salary. Compensation package includes health (medical and dental plans with employer-paid share), 401(k), flexible spending benefits, and vacation and sick days.
LocationThe editor will work in our Chicago office. Illinois Policy Institute has a hybrid work policy where employees can work from home up to two days each week.
