Qualifications
- Highly organized and able to balance multiple projects for multiple editors
- A strong writer and passionate reader, with a broad literary sensibility
- Interest in working on a wide range of high-quality fiction and non-fiction publications; enthusiasm for food and art books is strongly preferred
- Ability to apply organizational methods and strategies to meet deadlines and manage a loaded mailbox in Outlook
- Skills in timely follow-up work with authors and agents, as well as the ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects in a fast-paced and detail-oriented environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Well versed in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience working remotely
- Knowledge of foreign languages is a plus but not a must
Editorial group of the publishing house "Alfred
A. Knopf and Pantheon Books" is looking for an assistant to report to three senior editors. The assistant editor will be responsible for daily editorial activities, including reading proposals/manuscripts, copywriting, art journals, and general project support. In addition to providing administrative support, the assistant will liaise with authors, agents, and various departments of Penguin Random House to support the editorial process and the production of Knopf and Pantheon publications.
Role:
- Evaluate manuscripts and suggestions, and provide editorial feedback on a wide variety of books, including fiction, nonfiction, and cookbooks
- Write a catalog/folding copy (synopsis/book sale) and fact sheets
- Collaborate with all internal departments (advertising, marketing, sales, production, design, etc.)
- Details of editorial and production process coordination
- Act as a contact person between authors/agents and the editorial department
- Research trends and competition, including computer titles (books that will compete with sales/reader interest)
