Overview

We’re looking for an experienced Section Engineer to join our UKCS Scotland team. As part of our project management function, you’ll provide engineering control, technical expertise, and quality leadership across a range of construction activities. You will contribute to safe, sustainable, and efficient project delivery while maintaining accurate records and supporting collaborative site operations. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys problem-solving on site, and is committed to the highest standards of safety, quality, and productivity.

Responsibilities
  • Health, Safety & Environment:
    Supporting and championing a Zero Harm culture;
    Preparing and delivering Task Briefing Sheets;
    Contributing to the Permit to Dig process and leading workforce briefings;
    Carrying out safety inspections and identifying hazards, helping to shape safe systems of work.
  • Engineering Control:
    Setting out works from primary control points and preparing appropriate sketches;
    Using and maintaining survey equipment, ensuring appropriate registers and testing regimes are followed;
    Interpreting drawings, schedules, and specifications to deliver accurate engineering solutions.
  • Quality:
    Producing as-built drawings, records, and quality documentation in line with programme expectations;
    Keeping accurate daily records, including diaries, photographs, and site discussions;
    Ensuring work meets required specifications and construction tolerances.
  • Productivity:
    Measuring and reconciling material usage, helping to highlight and investigate variances;
    Tracking weekly progress against programme and supporting data collection for KPI reporting.
  • Commercial:
    Maintaining accurate diaries of labour, plant, materials, subcontractor use, and work outputs;
    Completing weekly measures, take-offs, and material schedules;
    Identifying and recording additional works and understanding their commercial implications.
Essential Experience & Qualities
  • Strong communicator with the ability to explain safe systems of work clearly.
  • Takes ownership, shows initiative, and works effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible and committed, including willingness to work nights or unsocial hours when required.
  • Holds a valid driving licence and CSCS card.
  • Competent in setting-out techniques using levels, EDM, and GPS.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schedules, and specifications.
  • Skilled in material take-offs, documentation for handover, and understanding construction tolerances.
  • Knowledge of specification and contract documents and what constitutes additional works.
Desirable Experience
  • Understanding of construction processes in areas such as earthworks, drainage, pavements, structures, or roadworks.
  • Developing leadership skills and interest in pursuing professional accreditation (e.g., ICE, IHT).
