As the Construction Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising Traffic Signals Construction Technologists, coordinating civil works and acting as the liaison for signals construction projects. Primary duties include:
Responsibilities   Supervise the operation of the signals construction program specifically civil works, steel, bases and ducting.
Oversee the projects in the field and ensure that the materials and techniques used are consistent with the specifications required to complete the work in an appropriate manner.
Manage preconstruction programs such as booking locates, CPS, and ensure that proper remediation occurs if weather conditions deteriorate or there are environmental issues or concerns that could affect the work being performed.
Prepare specifications for tenders on equipment and materials, and ensure inventory is maintained adequately.
Participate as a member of the design team to plan, review and evaluate both past and future work requirements.
Maintain a safety program such as safety meetings and inspections as required, tail gate meetings, and ensure all employees on the construction sites are aware of and in compliance with safety regulations.
Qualifications   A completed 2 year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or Journeyperson Electrician with Interprovincial Red Seal Endorsement, or equivalent as recognized by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board.
At least 10 years of related signals or a closely related field.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
A valid Class 5 Driver’s License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
Previous leadership/ management experience is considered an asset.
Success in this position requires strong leadership ability, effective communication, conflict resolution skills and strong planning and project management skills.
Supervisory experience leading a team along with demonstrated financial management, decision making, problem solving and strong negotiating skills.
Working Conditions  Include a combination of office and field environments, with periodic exposure to noise, outdoor work in all weather conditions, and active operational sites.
Pre-employment Requirements   A security clearance will be conducted.
Must obtain a City of Calgary operator’s permit.
Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
Workstyle   This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.
Pre-employment Drug Test  An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
