We are seeking a full‑time, on‑site Contractor Sales / Estimator to support contractor and major project customers at our Lakefield location. This role combines inside contractor sales, estimating, and customer relationship management.
The successful candidate will have strong industry knowledge, experience reading blueprints, and a solid understanding of building materials and construction practices. This position plays a key role in supporting contractor accounts, preparing accurate material take‑offs, and ensuring exceptional customer service.
The Contractor Sales / Estimator reports Sales Manager and Store General Manager.
Key Responsibilities Contractor Sales & Customer- Develop and maintain professional relationships with contractor and major project customers.
- Represent the company in a professional manner, ensuring all customers are treated with respect and courtesy.
- Manage contractor accounts and support customers throughout the project lifecycle.
- Make cold calls to prospective contractor and renovation customers.
- Develop and maintain a list of leads and future projects for follow‑up.
- Arrange and promote contractor events, either in‑store or off‑site.
- Perform material take‑offs and estimates from blueprints and drawings.
- Prepare accurate material lists for residential and commercial construction projects.
- Assist contractors with project design requirements, blueprint interpretation, and estimating.
- Maintain working knowledge of design software related to decks, houses, garages, kitchens, and similar projects.
- Make occasional job‑site visits with company sales personnel.
- Maintain awareness of municipal building permits issued within the trading area.
- Stay current on municipal, provincial, and federal building codes.
- Keep informed of Ministry of Housing building code updates.
- Assist customers, when required, with the building permit process.
- Liaise with store estimators and other departments to ensure smooth, problem‑free project execution.
- Provide weekly activity reports to the Store Manager.
- Work at contractor order desk and customer service desk as required.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- Assume additional duties as required by the Store General Manager.
- Strong knowledge of timber, lumber, and building materials
- Experience with estimating and blueprint take‑offs
- Solid understanding of building codes and construction practices
- Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to manage contractor relationships and accounts
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment
- Proficiency with estimating and design software is an asset
- Understanding of the local construction industry is a strong advantage
- Prior experience in contractor sales, estimating, or a related role is preferred
