INTERIOR DESIGN CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGER

Starting annual salary: $58,500 - $66,249

Closing Date: 03/05/2026 This position is hybrid.

Responsibilities
  • Work within the State of Tennessee Real Estate Management (STREAM) division of General Services to oversee the design and construction of office space for various state agencies across 95 counties.
  • Manage projects ranging from small furniture/finish upgrades to large single-story builds, ensuring work is finished on time, within budget, and to required standards.
  • Utilize knowledge of design, drawing development, construction methods, and best practices to oversee projects from drawing completion through construction completion.
  • Determine construction phasing and schedules with key stakeholders.
  • Lead progress meetings with the landlord, contractor, interior design project managers, agencies, end-users, and vendors.
  • Conduct regular site visits to document progress and ensure compliance with scope/drawings.
  • Perform final construction punch and ensure identified punch items are completed within established time frames.
  • Travel to project locations across the state and work irregular hours to meet deadlines.
  • Support thousands of State of Tennessee employees by ensuring projects are executed efficiently and per State standards.

The Department of General Services is looking for a talented individual to join our team as an Interior Design Project Manager. A bachelor's degree in interior design, construction management, or a related field is typically required, as well as proven experience in project management within the construction industry, with a strong emphasis on construction methods, scheduling, and people management. We are looking for: an organized self-motivator who anticipates next steps, takes initiative in managing multiple projects, and adheres to timelines.

A strong communicator and relationship builder with excellent verbal and written skills to interact with stakeholders and resolve conflicts. A confident individual who balances influence with collaboration to achieve work-related goals and enjoys variety and purpose in work.

The Interior Design Project Manager works within STREAM, a division of General Services, overseeing design and construction of office space for state agencies across 95 counties. Projects vary in size and complexity and require knowledge of design, drawing development, construction methods, and best practices to ensure timely, on-budget delivery to required standards. You will work with stakeholders to determine construction phasing and schedules, lead progress meetings, conduct site visits, and ensure compliance with drawings and scope.

Travel may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and five years of experience in architecture, industry-related project management, or evaluating and planning renovation, construction, installation of building systems, or interior and construction space planning.
