AboutThe Role
Safety Specialists work closely with field staff, clients, subcontractors, and all levels of management as well as personnel from external organizations during all phases of electric construction projects. They are committed to ensuring adherence to safety-related policies, procedures, and regulations while developing positive professional relationships. This is a location‑based position encompassing worksites throughout the assigned project area and requires varying amounts of travel.
EssentialFunctions
- Perform ongoing site visits to observe and document safety behaviors and work conditions to ensure a safety focus throughout all phases of electric construction projects.
- Coordinate with Operations teams to create site‑specific safety plans; actively participate in safety meetings to review job hazard analysis and hazard recognition tools.
- Participate in project kick‑off and progress meetings.
- Support client‑specific safety requirements programs and ensure alignment and compliance between client expectations, company rules, and applicable safety regulations.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to environmental protection or occupational health and safety.
- Coach and mentor project site personnel regarding safety practices and behaviors on an ongoing basis.
- Conduct proactive behavior‑based and quality‑focused field safety observations and PPE hazard assessments.
- Partner with Safety, Safety Training & Operations teams to schedule or facilitate required employee trainings (new hire orientation, OSHA ETD quarterly refresher, customer‑required training, post‑incident training, corrective action plan participation, and site‑specific safety planning).
- Conduct accident/injury investigations including root cause analyses.
- Provide support to Operations organization for incident case management and documentation steps.
- Follow‑up with Operations organization to ensure completion of corrective actions for all accidents and incidents.
- Support company safety committees by assisting in assessment of safety performance trends, implementing process and tool improvements.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Perform the duties of this position from a company‑designated office or field location.
- Understand and comply with the company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry‑specific professional and ethical conduct standards.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in environmental, health, and safety (EHS) field roles.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of one safety certification preferred (examples: CSHO, CHST, SMS, SSH, CSP).
- Undergraduate degree in Safety Management or related field preferred; relevant experience and education may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Problem‑solving and situational analysis skills.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence behavior.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA and other industry safety regulations.
- Team‑player ability to work with colleagues, different departments, and outside contacts to maintain strong relationships.
- Attentiveness to detail.
- Organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Basic understanding of electric construction project management practices and procedures.
- Willingness to travel for job‑site visits for extended periods.
- Salary: $75,000–$90,000 per year (commensurate with experience).
- Two days per week remote work option for non‑field roles, depending on position and performance.
