Traveling Construction Materials Technician II – Terracon
We invite applicants for this traveling role that involves 100% travel throughout the "Gulf Coast" division, including Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia.
This position offers the opportunity to work on high‑profile projects such as transportation, commercial buildings, wind farms, and more across multiple geographic areas. A suitable candidate enjoys traveling, working on various projects, and is looking to advance their construction material testing career.
General Responsibilities- Perform field testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (e.g. soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, steel).
- Communicate with project managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, contractor’s representatives, and others regarding the construction site, project requirements, testing, observation, inspection requirements, and results.
- Transport material samples with identifying documentation to the laboratory for further testing and analysis.
- Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observation in written and digital reports for daily transmittal to the Terracon Project Manager.
- Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
- Assist with scheduling and dispatch of technicians to project sites.
- Adhere to strict safety standards and perform pre‑task planning.
Roles And Responsibilities
- Perform testing observation, and inspection as directed in accordance with training and specified procedures.
- Provide clear documentation of findings and results.
- Perform basic analysis of data to verify accuracy before communication and submittal to the Project Manager.
- Communicate information to project managers and other personnel as directed.
- Assist higher level technicians on complex tasks.
- Maintain assigned equipment and related calibration.
- Drive a vehicle such as a Ford F‑150 or equivalent.
- Follow safety rules and practices and report any safety issues or concerns to management.
- Maintain quality standards on all projects.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of materials testing experience.
- Experience with laptop computer use and Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
- ACI certification in one or more of the following areas:
- Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I
- Concrete Strength Testing Technician
- Certified in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.
- Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
- Certifications in one or more of the following areas:
- NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils).
- NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical (Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist).
- ICC certification in one or more of the following categories:
Reinforced Concrete, Spray‑applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post‑Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel – Bolting, Structural Steel – Welding. - American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI).
- American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level II certification in one or more of the following areas:
Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT). - Other national, regional, state, and local materials related certifications requiring experience and written examination, considered if deemed appropriate by the Terracon Department Manager.
This position is categorized as a "Remote Only" role; employees typically work from home or another location and do not have a designated office workspace.
CompensationThe national standard salary range for this position is $19.50–$27.50 per hour. The base range may be adjusted based on the specific location of the applicant. Final compensation is based on individual qualifications and experience.
