Traveling Construction Materials Technician II – Terracon
Embark on exciting projects across Texas as a traveling construction materials technician, delivering quality field testing on critical infrastructure such as transportation projects, commercial buildings, wind farms, and more.
This role requires 100% travel throughout Texas, working on multiple high‑profile projects and collaborating with project managers, engineers, and client representatives to document testing results, maintain equipment, and uphold strict safety standards.
General Responsibilities- Perform field testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (e.g., soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, steel).
- Communicate with project staff regarding site conditions, testing requirements, and results.
- Transport material samples with documentation to the laboratory.
- Tabulate, prepare, and submit written and digital reports for daily transmittal to the Terracon Project Manager.
- Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
- Assist with scheduling and dispatch of technicians to project sites.
- Adhere to strict safety standards.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Perform testing, observation, and inspection as directed according to training and procedures.
- Provide clear documentation of findings and results.
- Perform basic data analysis for accuracy before submission to the Project Manager.
- Communicate information to the Project Manager and other personnel as directed.
- Assist higher‑level technicians on complex tasks.
- Maintain assigned equipment and related calibration.
- Drive a vehicle such as a Ford F‑150 or equivalent.
- Follow safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects.
- Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of materials testing experience.
- Experience with laptop use and Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
- ACI certification in one or more of the following:
- Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I
- Concrete Strength Testing Technician
- Certified in radiation safety and nuclear density gauge operation.
- Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
- Certifications in one or more of the following areas:
- NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils).
- NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical (Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist).
- ICC certification in any of the following categories:
Reinforced Concrete, Spray‑applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post‑Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel – Bolting, Structural Steel – Welding. - American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI).
- American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level II certification in Visual Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing, Dye Penetrant Testing, Radiographic Testing, Ultrasonic Testing.
- Other national, regional, state, and local materials‑related certifications with experience and written examination may also be considered.
This position is categorized as a Remote Only role; employees work from home or other locations without a designated office workspace.
National salary range: $19.50 – $27.50 per hour, adjusted for location and qualifications.
