Traveling Construction Materials Technician
Join our Traveling Construction Materials Technician team, where you can embark on new opportunities, develop professionally, and contribute to thrilling projects nationwide. This position involves 100% travel throughout the Gulf Coast division, including Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia. You will work on high‑profile projects such as transportation, commercial buildings, and wind farms across multiple geographical areas. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys traveling and wants to advance their construction material testing career.
GeneralResponsibilities
- Perform field testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (soils, agglomerates, concrete, asphalt, and steel).
- Communicate with project managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, contractor representatives, and others regarding site conditions, project requirements, and testing results.
- Transport material samples with documentation to the laboratory for analysis.
- Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observations in written and digital reports for daily transmittal to the Terracon Project Manager.
- Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
- Assist with scheduling and dispatch of technicians to project sites.
- Adhere to strict safety standards.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Perform testing, observation, and inspection as directed in accordance with training and specified procedures.
- Provide clear documentation of findings and results.
- Perform basic data analysis to verify accuracy before communication to the Project Manager.
- Communicate information to the Project Manager and other personnel as directed.
- Assist higher‑level technicians on complex tasks.
- Maintain assigned equipment and related calibration.
- Drive a vehicle such as a Ford F‑150 or equivalent.
- Follow safety rules and practices, perform pre‑task planning, and report any safety issues.
- Maintain quality standards on all projects.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of materials testing experience.
- Experience with laptop computer use and Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
- ACI certification:
Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I or Concrete Strength Testing Technician. - Certified in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.
- Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
- NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils).
- NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical (Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist).
- ICC certification in Reinforced Concrete, Spray‑applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post‑Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel – Bolting, Structural Steel – Welding.
- AWS Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI).
- ASNT Level II certification in Visual Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing, Dye Penetrant Testing, Radiographic Testing, Ultrasonic Testing.
- Other national, regional, state, and local materials‑related certifications with experience and written examination, as deemed appropriate.
This position is classified as a “Remote Only” role. Remote Only employees typically work from home or another location without a designated office workspace.
The national standard salary range for this position is $19.50–$27.50 per hour. The base range may be adjusted based on the specific location of the applicant. Final compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
