HEAD START/EARLY HEAD STARTThrough our Head Start and Early Head Start programs, we work with children (ages 0 –
5) and their families to provide the skills, confidence and stable home life necessary for a smooth transition into kindergarten and beyond. Children also receive a broad array of health services including screenings and referrals, maintenance of immunization schedules, nutrition assessments and follow-ups, mental health assessments as part of initial screenings, and determination if any developmental or physical delays are present.
Children receive health and dental services and have access to ongoing and acute and routine health and dental care. Enrolled children receive healthy meals, along with an assessment of their nutritional needs and the necessary follow-ups. Nutrition education is available for parents and incorporated into daily classroom activities for the children.
The Home Visitor/Teacher identifies, recruits and enrolls families for participation in the program. In classrooms, they provide support for varied activities planned in order to help children develop socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically with the overall goal being to achieve social competence for the child. While working in homes with families, the Home Visitor/Teacher fosters the view and practice in parents that they are their child’s first teacher and reinforces this concept with developmentally appropriate activities.
ESSENTIALJOB DUTIES:
- Works with home-based families by going to the family home weekly to provide activities that are developmentally appropriate, family focused and engaging;
- Provide children with an environment that includes varied activities to help children develop socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically in manner appropriate to their age and stage of development, with the overall goal being to achieve social competence for the child;
- Support center based classrooms as needed based on program need.
- In classrooms, implements the program curriculum for children enrolled. Plans individual and group activities to stimulate learning and promote child’s learning. Works cooperatively with Co-Teacher and Family Advocate (FA) to provide information and resources to enrolled families;
- Provide a learning environment that reflects the varied cultural and ethnic backgrounds of the children in the program and the larger communities and societies in which they live;
- Consults with families and staff in identifying a family’s or child’s challenges/needs and explores solutions;
- Conducts ongoing observations, screenings and assessments to develop goals that relate to the child's individual growth and development.
- Identifies, recruits and enrolls families for participation in the HS Program;
- Maintain children's records; submit accurate monthly paperwork and reports on a timely basis
- Plans, participates, and creates an environment that is developmentally appropriate and implements socializations twice a month;
- Fosters the view and practice in parents that they are their child’s first teacher and reinforce this concept with practical suggestions;
- Acts as a liaison and advocate between Family Advocates, community resources and HS families to ensure parent involvement and obtain nutrition, health, disability and mental health services;
