A Qualified Social Worker is required to join Merthyr Social Services LAC team. This contract will initially run for 3 months initially and is for 5 days a week ideally and will cover a vacant post. This role is 4 days office based and one day working from home when settled into the role. Pay rate for this position is up £30.50 PAYE / £39.67 Umbrella company.
The Children Looked After Team carry out statutory duties for all children subject to section 76 parental agreement , Interim or Care Orders. The Local Authority has a duty to ensure that the work and support offered is well directed and supervised in line with our statutory duties.
Merthyr expect our practitioners to have a sound understanding of the practice implications of the Social Services and Wellbeing Act and other relevant legislation, be up to date with emerging issues, and have experience of or an interest in working with young people who are care experienced. Committed to anti-oppressive practice, successful candidates will bring strong assessment, communication, and planning skills.
The Children Looked After Team delivers services to young people aged 0-16 years of age. You will work with children and young people who are subject to Care Orders residing in foster placements, kinship placements and residential placements who are in need of care and support in order to fulfil their needs and full potential.
You will be required to undertake direct work with young people such as life journey work, risk management, and emotional wellbeing support.
You will manage a defined caseload while building and maintaining links with partner agencies. You must possess a professional recognised Social Work qualification and be registered with Social Care Wales.
To apply for this role:
- Must have recent Local Authority working experience in a Looked After Children / Children in Care team.
- Must have extensive experience in Children's Social Work and demonstrate periods of long post holding
- Must be able to commit to full time hours
- Available to start a new role ASAP
- Must be fully capable to hit the ground running, we are not able to provide training to people interested in moving into the LAC environment, they must already possess experience in this area.
-Enhanced DBS, registered on the update service or be happy to apply for a DBS

-Driving license with access to a car
