Department:
Social Science Data and Computation Lab; reporting to the chairs of the Departments of Economics, Government and Quantitative Social Sciences. This role provides data science and statistical analysis expertise to faculty and students, supporting original research projects using Stata, R, Python, and related tools.
Collaborate with faculty and students to identify data requirements and contribute to the design and implementation of research methodologies.
Guide and support data collection, cleaning, and preparation for analysis, ensuring data integrity and replicability.
Apply statistical and data analysis tools (Stata, R, Python) to perform complex analyses and modelling to extract actionable insights.
Create visualizations, reports, and presentations that effectively communicate findings.
Conduct short workshops to familiarize undergraduate students with statistical software.
Stay informed about emerging trends in data science and contribute to best practices in data management and analysis.
Demonstrate professionalism and collegiality; perform other duties as assigned.
- Master’s or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Graduate degree in data science, economics, political science, statistics, computer science, or a related field; applicants with a BA/BS and relevant experience will be considered.
- Proven research experience with a track record of contributing to original research projects.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis, data modelling, and machine learning techniques; command of Stata and R.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to liaise with faculty and students from diverse backgrounds.
- Familiarity with academic research processes and ethical considerations in data analysis and dissemination.
- Experience in a university or academic research environment.
- Knowledge of data visualization tools and techniques.
- Familiarity with Python.
- Familiarity with GIS tools.
- Familiarity with applying emerging AI tools, especially large language models, to social science problems.
