Position: Account Manager (RSCH ADM 2 CX)

The Account Manager, under the general supervision of the Business Operations Manager, manages faculty accounts and grants, and serves as back‑up to the department Grants Analyst. This position operates with a high degree of confidentiality, organization, and attention to detail.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Experience with budgeting and contract/grant/gift account management.
  • Experience in financial analysis, forecasting, and strategic planning to analyze quantitative aspects of fiscal and budgetary issues, and compile financial data and reports.
  • Organizational skills to work independently to achieve timely progress on multiple detail‑oriented projects.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, cost allocation methods, and accounting policies and procedures in an academic environment.
  • Ability to perform routine financial analysis and reporting.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local, sponsor, and institutional regulations, policies, and guidelines.
  • Ability to thrive in a busy, high‑volume, and deadline‑driven work environment that requires coordination of multiple activities and the judgment and flexibility to reprioritize to accommodate emergency requests. Detail oriented.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using campus systems, including Aggie Enterprise, Cognos, and UC Path. Experience working with faculty and research grants.
  • Experience with UC accounting, purchasing, entertainment, travel, and business management practices.
  • Interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Skills to manage paper files and electronic media in a readily accessible way.
  • Ability to perform moderately complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
  • Knowledge of grant funding processes, procedures, and techniques.

Department Overview

The Chemistry Department is a large and complex academic and research department located in the College of Letters and Science. The department has state and extramural funds with expenditures of approximately $26M annually including $7M in organized research. There are 29 staff members, 41 senate faculty, 4 continuing lecturers, many Federation appointees, Emeritus Faculty, Postdocs, Pre‑Six Lecturers, as well as 250 graduate students and 750 undergraduate majors.
