Join our Human Resources team as an HR Budget Specialist
, supporting the financial operations that keep HR running smoothly. This is a range recruitment, with hiring at Level 2 or Level 3 based on qualifications and experience.
At Level 2, the HR Budget Specialist provides intermediate fiscal support for HR operations, performing routine budget coordination, reconciliations, procurement processing, financial data review, and compliance tasks. The role prepares budget‑to‑actual reports, processes accounting transactions and journal vouchers, runs standard financial queries, and compiles data used for preliminary analysis. Working independently on routine assignments, the HR Budget Specialist applies working knowledge of GAAP, university fiscal systems, procurement rules, and spreadsheet tools, while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and strong organizational and communication skills.
The position collaborates with HR, finance, and procurement partners, resolves standard issues, and identifies small process improvements within established procedures.
At Level 3, the HR Budget Specialist demonstrates strong critical thinking, analytical, and quantitative skills with solid business acumen and a continuous improvement mindset. This role requires advanced ability to query, extract, normalize, and analyze financial data and to effectively incorporate that data into a variety of reporting tools and financial software systems. The HR Budget Specialist applies knowledge of accounting theory and generally accepted accounting principles, with experience using financial accounting systems such as Banner and data analysis tools such as Excel or TOAD.
The position requires strong research, problem‑solving, planning, and project management skills; the ability to independently prioritize and manage a diversified workload; and flexibility in a dynamic, evolving environment. Effective written and oral communication, customer service, and relationship‑building skills are essential, along with the ability to collaborate with stakeholders and foster a team‑oriented work environment. Familiarity with applicable University, State, and regulatory rules and requirements is also expected.
- For Level 2 (Grade 79):
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources or related field from an accredited college or university; plus a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, fiscal, personnel, or general operations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Demonstrated proficiency with Excel and experience with ERP/reporting tools (e.g., Banner, TOAD, Access, OBI, or similar).
- For Level 3 (Grade 80):
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources or related field from an accredited college or university; plus a minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, fiscal, personnel, or general operations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Demonstrated proficiency with Excel and experience with ERP/reporting tools (e.g., Banner, TOAD, Access, OBI, or similar).
This is a full‑time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. This position is a range recruitment at Grade 79 or Grade 80. Placement and salary will be based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
This position is based on the Troth Yeddha’ Campus at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF). A hybrid work arrangement may be available for candidates residing in the Fairbanks area. While in‑person or hybrid work is preferred, remote work may be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates who reside outside of Fairbanks.
