Director of Sales
Position OverviewThis role is responsible for prospecting and driving net-new business and strategic expansion within the upper mid-market space. Account Executives at Paylocity work in a fast-paced business environment that is very competitive and quota-driven, and target medium-sized businesses (250-499 employees).
Primary Responsibilities- Strategically target and acquire new business in the 250–499 employee range using a multi-channel approach including outbound prospecting, warm referrals, and partner networks.
- Engage senior decision-makers, including HR, Finance, and Executive stakeholders, to position Paylocity as a strategic partner.
- Deliver customized presentations and product demonstrations that align Paylocity’s value with the client’s business goals and operational needs.
- Manage complex sales cycles, often involving multiple decision-makers and layered approval processes.
- Develop tailored proposals and pricing strategies, demonstrating ROI and business impact.
- Partner cross-functionally with Sales Engineering, Implementation, and Customer Success to ensure smooth onboarding and long-term value realization.
- Consistently achieve or exceed quota and performance metrics specific to this segment.
- Maintain accurate and timely sales forecasting and pipeline management through CRM.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on Paylocity's HCM technology and trends impacting enterprise HR.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- 5+ years of successful B2B sales experience, with a focus on mid-market or enterprise clients.
- Demonstrated success in complex, consultative sales with longer sales cycles and high-value deals.
- Proven track record of prospecting and closing net-new business in a competitive market.
- Exceptional communication, executive presence, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong business acumen and ability to identify client pain points and recommend strategic solutions.
- High level of autonomy, accountability, and motivation.
- Proficiency in CRM platforms (Salesforce preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience selling HCM, HRIS, payroll, or SaaS solutions in the 250+ employee space.
- Familiarity with upmarket buying processes and procurement policies.
- Understanding of vertical-specific challenges in industries such as healthcare, manufacturing, and professional services.
- Mobility required for sitting, standing and walking.
- Mobility required for driving to prospective client sites.
- Manual/finger dexterity required in both hands to operate computer keyboard and manipulate small objects.
- Sensory ability required to see, hear and touch.
- Mental effort required for reading, writing, visualization, calculation and analysis.
- Job duties usually performed in an office environment with uniform temperatures and normal air conditions.
