The Director, Capital Strategy and Planning analyzes and forecasts financial, economic, and other data to provide accurate and timely information for strategic and operational decisions. The Director, Capital Strategy and Planning requires an in-depth understanding of how organization capabilities interrelate across the function or segment.
This position is remote; however, you must be available to work within the Eastern or Central time zones.
Humana is looking for an experienced and results-oriented Director of Capital Strategy and Planning to lead the development, coordination, and execution of capital and returns optimization initiatives across our enterprise. This leadership role will require a strong sense of urgency, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to effectively collaborate with teams across Finance and the broader business, including the Insurance and Center Well segments.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of capital strategy, planning, and returns management processes.
- Collaborate across multiple teams to develop, implement, and refine return on capital metrics aligned with value creation and long-term strategic priorities. Coordinate cross-functional initiatives, ensuring clear communication, accountability, and timely execution.
- Build and maintain analytics and reporting dashboards on internally developed return metrics to provide strategic insight and transparency for finance and business leadership teams.
- Develop and implement governance framework for Humana's regulatory capital allocation strategy and decision making.
- Prepare Board or investor-ready materials that communicate Humana's capital allocation strategy and performance against it.
- Monitor and provide insights on industry and competitive developments focused on regulatory capital optimization and returns.
- Provide actionable recommendations to executive leadership based on rigorous financial analysis and market insights. Communicate strategies clearly and succinctly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Foster highly productive working relationships that enable close collaboration with Humana's Management Team as well as key corporate, functional, and business unit leaders.
- Build and lead a team of 2-3 associates
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related analytical field (e.g., economics, statistics, computer science)
- 5+ years of related experience in FP&A, capital planning, or strategic finance leadership in a highly regulated environment
- Advanced proficiency in financial statement analysis and modeling/forecasting
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting principles for health insurers
- Understanding of regulatory capital strategy, planning, and related governance processes
- Strong proficiency and experience in data analysis with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL).
- Demonstrated leadership through ambiguous scenarios successfully with a high sense of urgency
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including the polish, poise, and executive presence that will ensure effective interaction with senior and executive level audiences
- Low ego/high EQ, collaborative mindset and relationship-building skills, including the ability to engage many diverse stakeholders and SMEs and win their co-ownership in the outcome
- Proven ability to build high-performing teams by identifying, cultivating, and motivating top talent from inside and outside of the organization
- CFA, CPA, MBA, or other advanced degree/designation
- Health insurance industry experience
- Experience working with Python, SQL, C++, Power Bi, Tableau and other data analytics tools
