Description

The School of Public Health at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Remote) Data Analytics Specialist with the Prevention Research Center.

What You'll Do
  • Monitor data collection and data collection protocols.
  • Design, develop, and maintain visually appealing dashboards using Tableau, Power BI, or other data visualization software for real-time performance monitoring and report generation for multiple audiences from large datasets.
  • Streamline reporting processes and increase efficiency in data retrieval and presentation accuracy, including automating and/or coding to translate data into understandable and visually appealing reports in real time.
  • Conduct system analysis and implementation to maintain and improve computer systems to generate lengthy reports efficiently and timely.
  • Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for centralized access to prior and future reporting initiatives and process information for internal team members.
  • Interpret, synthesize, and analyze data; manage multiple large project databases of qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Provide technical assistance to PRC, community, and state partners for dashboards and data reports; create and generate annual reports for schools, counties, communities, and state partners, including written reports and presentations.
  • Schedule, organize, and report on the status of data management activities to the project team.
  • Write and edit reports and other deliverables, including presentations, for a variety of stakeholders including state, federal, and community audiences.
  • Collaborate with state and community partners to implement data‑driven strategies and integrate evaluation findings into continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide mentorship to team members and graduate students, fostering professional growth and building organizational capacity.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in public health, psychology, sociology, social work, public administration, data analytics and design, data visualization, software engineering, or a related discipline. Master’s degree or higher preferred.

  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in biostatistics, epidemiology, data analysis and data visualization including application of statistical methodology.
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the mission, goals, and policies of the WVPRC.
  • Knowledge of research methodology in a community setting.
  • Knowledge of program development and management.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills to plan and prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, telephone, written, face-to-face) and ability to perform in a professional manner in a variety of settings and with individuals of various backgrounds and skill levels.
  • Ability to manage multiple project activities with attention to detail.
  • Ability to see the interconnectedness among multiple aspects of a project.
  • Effective public speaking skills.
  • Proficiency in computer software including spreadsheets, word processing, video-conferencing, web-based survey and presentation programs, and file management. Specific skills in data visualization software (e.g., Tableau, Microsoft BI, SQL Server, Python, SAS, ArcGIS, REDCap, SharePoint) are preferred.
  • Proficiency in creating county, state, and regional maps (e.g., Sage X3, ArcGIS Pro).
  • Ability to create and generate automated reports and incorporate geospatial data into GIS dashboards for county, state, regional, or national visualization.
  • Daily use of ArcGIS Pro, Esri dashboards, and public data sources to produce maps, visuals, tables for ongoing reporting and process documentation.
  • Ability to present findings graphically including tables, charts, and interactive data dashboards.
