PurposeThis role is responsible for developing new business opportunities and/or retaining existing business within the Federal Markets Division. This position represents the organization in acquisition strategy development, prospecting, network analytics, financial evaluation, and negotiating with clients and brokers using consultative selling skills in order to grow new business and/or retain existing business and enhance profitability.
Essential Functions- Under general guidance, aggressively grow new business and/or renew existing business for medical and ancillary products in the Federal Markets Division. Ensure appropriate update of Sales strategy/sales activities documentation on a monthly basis.
- Develop strong relationships with Agency Benefit Officers, federal employees and retirees, postal employees and uniformed service members, utilizing strategic and consultative selling skills both in person and through virtual channels.
- Provide documented formal training of assigned Agency Benefits Officers and Postmasters throughout the year including the use of virtual training technology where appropriate. Must be able to create and effectively conduct training presentations on all medical and ancillary products, as well as regulatory changes.
- Management and coaching of assigned Agency Benefits Officers and Postmasters to ensure paperwork and enrollment process is followed correctly. Take appropriate action where necessary to ensure that distribution partners are following guidelines.
Education Level
~Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance or related field OR in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.
Licenses/Certifications Upon Hire Required- Current health and life license for the jurisdictions of Maryland, DC, and Virginia.
3 years of federal sales/healthcare experience in a similar sales position.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in a similar Federal sales position with a competitor or another Blue Cross Blue Shield plan is preferred.

- Knowledge and understanding of CRM, Salesforce, and other client management tools.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Must be able to meet established deadlines and handle multiple customer service demands from internal and external customers, within set expectations for service excellence. Must be able to effectively communicate and provide positive customer service to every internal and external customer, including customers who may be demanding or otherwise challenging.
