Position: Switchboard/PBX Operator.

Overview

The Colorado Mental Health Institute at Fort Logan (CMHHIFL) is one of two state hospitals serving the community. It offers inpatient treatment to adults aged 18–59, with 94 beds across four treatment units. The hospital includes specialized forensic units and provides psychiatric stabilization, restoration treatment, medical services, occupational therapy, neuropsychological‑rehabilitation, and trauma‑informed care.

Purpose of the Position

This role provides safety and communication services to staff and patients at CMHH‑Fort Logan, including emergency procedures, dispatch, vehicle management, documentation, and front‑desk reception.

Responsibilities
  • Answer and direct incoming telephone calls, provide general information, and screen visitors for safety.
  • Dispatch Public Safety Officers via police‑band radio for emergencies and routine calls.
  • Coordinate responses to medical emergencies, tornadoes, bomb threats, and triage; contact local law enforcement for serious offenses.
  • Manage State vehicle assignments after hours, weekends, and holidays; maintain a pickup log.
  • Maintain logs of safety calls, medical staff calls, nursing supervisors, housekeeping, and alarms; brief staff during shift changes.
  • Provide directions to CMHHIFL, greet visitors, route them, and receive parcels and mail for the hospital.
Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years of administrative and clerical experience in medical, clinical, or office settings.

Substitutions

Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis.

Appeal Rights

If eliminated from consideration, applicants may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board or request a review by the State Personnel Director. Appeals must be submitted on the official appeal form, signed, and delivered to the Board or the State Personnel Director within ten (10) calendar days of receipt of notice.
