Responsibilities
Lead the implementation of ECOM’s global strategy on biochar
Lead the development of guidance and procedures (tools) for biochar project development to be used by ECOM’s teams in operations and in the commodity supply chains at origin
Development of ECOM’s internal capacities across relevant ECOM’s global and local teams, including training and training materials
Manage ECOM’s biochar project portfolio (pilots, trials, ongoing projects etc.)
Participate in all stages of structuring of biochar projects (feasibility assessments, carbon modeling, project development, biomass and biochar testing, contract negotiation, MRV, offtake agreements negotiation), including technology assessments and technical requirements;
Support in the development of biochar-based formulations for ECOM’s commodities across countries
Support the achievement of the Net-Zero strategy of the company, data collection and reporting;
Advising internally in the development of own biochar carbon credits projects (industrial and artisanal), methodologies, types and provide general structuring advice and optimization of returns throughout the carbon project development process;
Conduct financial feasibility assessment and evaluation of international investment opportunities in global voluntary carbon markets;
Work with local teams to evaluate and issue recommendations on the most appropriate/competitive financing options for the projects, including agreements with ECOM’s clients
Support development of project documentation such as partnership agreements, joint ventures, long term offtake prepayment and others;
Preparation of investor presentation and material to roadshow investment opportunities;
Conduct day-to-day interactions with business units in different jurisdictions, for carbon offset portfolio development, project finance, project implementation and biochar application.
3 - 5 years of technical experience in the development of biochar projects with 2 - 3 years experience in project management
Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences
Hands-on experience in biochar production, energy generation in biochar facilities
Practical knowledge on biochar certifications like EBC and biochar carbon credit voluntary standards, methodology application, including LCAs and carbon project certification process
Experience with biochar applications, specifically as a soil amendment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Languages:
fluency in English. Spanish, French and/or Portuguese is good to have;Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Effective communication and negotiation skills.
Proactive, self-starter, organized, works well under pressure.
Works collaboratively with stakeholders across all levels, all cultures, and all geographies;
Ability to work independently and with minimal guidance.
This position will report to the Carbon Credits Manager with close collaboration with the commodity sustainability managers at the origins.
This is a full-time position that be located in Switzerland, Europe or the UK. Remote work is open for discussion.
The Biochar Manager will work under the Climate Department, a highly motivated and cooperative team under a friendly and supportive working environment.
