Job Summary

The Assured and Adequate Water Supply (AAWS) Intern will support the Designation of Assured and Adequate Water Supply annual reporting program. This position will focus on tracking annual reports submitted by designated providers, performing quality control checks, maintaining reporting records, and assisting with required notices and follow-up communications.

The intern will work closely with AAWS staff to support compliance with statutory and regulatory reporting requirements and will gain practical experience in how Arizona administers assured and adequate water supply programs. This role provides hands-on exposure to regulatory programs, data management, and coordination with public water providers in a professional government setting.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures. A minimum of two days on-site at the ADWR office per week is required.

Job Duties
  • Track receipt of Designation annual reports from designated water providers and maintain accurate reporting logs
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of annual reports to check for completeness, basic data accuracy, and consistency with legal requirements
  • Assist with organizing, filing, and maintaining electronic and physical records related to annual reporting
  • Prepare and send required notices and reminders to designated providers regarding reporting requirements and deadlines
  • Support staff with follow-up communications and documentation related to annual report compliance
  • Learn the statutory and regulatory framework that governs Designation reporting requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Schedule:

Hours will vary from 20 hours per week up to 40 hours per week. A hybrid work schedule (some work in the office and some work from home) is available for this position.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge: Basic office practices such as filing, organizing, and record-keeping;
Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook); general research methods and information sources

Skills: Clear written and verbal communication; tracking information accurately using spreadsheets or logs; reviewing documents for completeness and consistency; working cooperatively in a team environment

Abilities: Follow instructions and complete tasks with attention to detail; learn and apply program procedures and reporting requirements; manage time effectively and meet deadlines; maintain professionalism when working with staff and the public

Pre-Employment Requirements

Candidates must be enrolled in a degree program related to water resources management, sustainability, environmental studies, public administration, public policy, history, geography, political science, urban planning, or a related field.
