Fair Share, a Madison, WI-based nonprofit, is made up of a group of passionate, deeply invested farmer and food equity advocates. We support small farms through production, labor and marketing/sales support, and invest in our local food communities by connecting farms with all eaters.
The Program Intern will primarily assist with helping administer Fair Share's food access program, Partner Shares, as well as provide assistance in planning Bike the Barns. Program Interns are the primary administrators of the Partner Shares Program and will assist households with their applications, provide updates to farmers, and ensure thorough program documentation. Bike the Barns is a day-long biking event that is Fair Share’s largest fundraiser for the Partner Shares Program.

Position Period: Preference for January - December 2026 (Annual), with the opportunity for continuation. A shorter term of January - May 2026 (Seasonal) may also be available for interested applicants.
Location: Hybrid work environment based in Madison, WI. Some in-office time required (approximately twice weekly), with flexibility for remote work.
Hours: 15-20 hrs/week with flexible scheduling. Hours will vary depending on seasonal program needs.
Compensation: $18/hr
ResponsibilitiesPartner Shares Program (50%)
- Overall program application administration
- Email and phone follow up, maintaining detailed program documentation and participant files
- Ongoing communications with applicants, participants and farmers
- Support for applicants with identifying CSA pickup sites and payment plan options
- Partnership-building with area leaders and community centers
- Assist with overall coordination & administration of Fair Share’s annual Bike the Barns event (September 20, 2026), including:
- Registration and rider communication and support
- Activities for Bus the Barns
- Support site logistics, event permits, and planning
- Assist with volunteer coordination
- Day-of event support and site coordination
- Support Fair Share staff with other events and outreach efforts as needed
- Support organizational email account management, merchandise order fulfillment, and other administrative tasks
- Support Communications Manager with organizational communications as needed
- Meet with staff supervisor weekly and with other staff as needed

- Interest or experience in local food, food access, event planning, and/or sustainable agriculture
- Ability to consider different viewpoints and incorporate the perspectives of diverse communities into decision-making processes and communications
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proficient in Google Workspace applications (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Sheets)
- Comfort with video conferencing and basic digital communication tools
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings
- A collaborative spirit and willingness to support team needs across programs
