The College of Design offers comprehensive undergraduate and graduate study in architecture, art + design, graphic design, industrial design, and graduate studies in landscape architecture, through a range of degree programs including two doctoral degree programs in Design—the Ph.D. and the Doctor of Design. Administratively, the College of Design’s academic units are served by four centralized support centers:
Finance and Administration;
Student and Academic Services;
Academic Support; and External Relations.

This position will work closely with and support the academic unit head for the Department of Landscape and Environmental Planning. The position will also collaborate with and back-up the Program Associate for the School of Architecture, Media Art and Graphic and Experience Design and Industrial Design. Additionally, the position will collaborate with the College’s centralized student office, budget and fund-raising administration departments.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as support to the academic unit head
- Manage the academic unit head’s calendar and schedule appointments based on operational knowledge, responsibilities and issues of importance within the college and department.
- Work with the department head on workflows related to faculty and student hires, budget reconciliation, course schedules, academic calendar, travel, and event planning.
- Actively identify/resolve issues that affect the academic units
- Work closely with the unit head to develop multifaceted reports which impact accreditation efforts, faculty and program assessment, faculty searches, and other curricular activities
- Serve as primary contact for written/verbal communications regarding programmatic issues on behalf of the academic unit head
- Collaborate with staff in College’s centralized support offices, dean’s office, graduate program coordinators, faculty, and other University administrative offices
Other Responsibilities
- Participate in the College of Design as an active colleague, work independently, and as part of the administrative team in support of the four academic heads.
- Provide backup support to the Executive Assistant to the Dean as needed.
- Provide reception area coverage in the Dean’s Office as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional administrative experience with the ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment, discretion, and maintaining confidentiality.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills, including managing workflows, agendas, and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
