Position: SENIOR OFFICE ASSOCIATE - Range 10 / AMEA

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

DEPARTMENT: Public Works
HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00
LOCATION: 4700 Elmore Road

Note: Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work per P&P 40-40.

Eligibility: To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.

Responsibilities
  • Assist as a member of the Office Support Team by checking for and suggesting proper formatting, grammar, spelling, and content of all documents presented to the team for processing, and by creating and explaining to others the correct use of templates, MS Word track changes, letters, mailing functions, MS Outlook calendar sharing, task functions, electronic and hard copy filing, and archiving.
  • Greet public, answer telephone calls, and make referrals.
  • Assist with data entry of bid tabs, utility database, and weight tickets.
  • Prepare and mail distributions and Insulated Streets Updates.
  • Prepare Assembly documents and enter them into the OnBase system.
  • Act for other office administrative staff when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and two (2) years of experience in office clerical work.
  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business, Computer Information Systems, or similar discipline and experience in office clerical work.
Must Possess and/or Obtain
  • Ability to type at a net speed of 35 WPM.
  • Satisfactory background check, including criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.

Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted background check, which encompasses criminal history, verifying education and employment dates.

If selected for hire, appointment will also be conditional upon submission of a current documentation or certification of typing speed ability. The documentation must contain the applicant's name and be current within the past one (1) year.

All required certifications and/or licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.

Military Service Interview Preference

Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs that recognizes the person as a veteran and shows an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge.

Minimum qualifications must be met for preference consideration.
