Maine School Management Association (MSMA) is seeking a full-time Workers’ Compensation Billing Associate. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Hybrid work from home/in office schedule is available for this position.
MSMA is the service organization for the Maine School Boards Association and the Maine School Superintendents Association.
The successful candidate must be very detail-oriented, have exceptional time management skills, and be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. The job will require the ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision, while prioritizing multiple tasks and deadlines on a daily basis. The ideal candidate should have experience and knowledge to apply the Workers’ Compensation Board Maine Medical Fee Schedule to varying types of medical provider bills, while maintaining compliance enforced by the Workers’ Compensation Board.
Additional qualifications desired include maintaining and managing electronic records and files; utilizing the claims management system (ATS), as well as Microsoft Office Products and Examworks for CMS reporting; establish and maintain positive working relationships with service providers including the Workers’ Compensation Board, Examworks, and Safety National; make decisions based upon experience, good judgement, and established office procedures; have the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting with in-office personnel and staff members working remotely;
and must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Apply Medical Fee Schedule to all provider medical bills.
- Verify all EDI transactions to the Workers’ Compensation Board and coordinate resolution of issues. Monitor outgoing/incoming files ensuring compliance with strict reporting deadlines.
- Prepare weekly check run; print checks, reconcile batch to register. Prepare batch register and numeric check register reports for signature/approval by WC Claims Manager. Email copies of indemnity claims payments to schools who request them.
- Facilitate reporting to CMS via Examworks by entering required claims, work with adjusters to update claims to ensure monthly compliance. Monitor monthly return files and coordinate resolution of any issues that arise.
- Receive weekly pharmacy invoices, distribute to adjusters and accounting. Enter individual invoices into ATS, create export for accounting to verify invoices match ACH bill.
- Process and file 1099’s annually as required by the Internal Revenue Service.
MSMA offers a competitive wage and benefits package. Rate of pay will be comparable for like positions.
