Part-Time Office Administrator – Making Treaty 7

Making Treaty 7 Cultural Society is looking for an energetic part-time office administrator to join our dynamic and innovative team. Priority will be given to applicants who are First Nations, Inuit or Métis. This is a part/time, entry-level position with the opportunity for advancement and increased hours.

Making Treaty 7 Cultural Society Is a non-profit organization and a registered charity that explores the historical significance of the events at Blackfoot Crossing in 1877, while investigating the consequences and implications of Treaty 7 to date.

Artistic Director, Justin Many Finger’s mission is to work together with existing arts organizations here in in Mohhkintstis (Calgary) and to bring this city to the national playground for Indigenous arts on Turtle Island; to support the creation of original works and pathways for theatre, dance, visual art, and music production by Indigenous creators.

Making Treaty 7 Cultural Society would like to acknowledge the late Elk Shadow/Pona Ko’taksi
, also known as Michael Green, and Middle Bull/Tatsikiistamik
, also known as Narcisse Blood. Elk Shadow was the founder and visionary behind the Making Treaty 7 project. We celebrate his commitment to a shared belief that We Are All Treaty People. We are committed to ensuring that his spirit will live on.

Making Treaty 7 Cultural Society recently took up residency in The GRAND Theatre and has recently announced it first in-house season. Learn more at  .

The successful candidate should:
  • Have an interest in the arts.
  • Be active in the local arts community.
  • Be organized and a quick learner.
  • Be able to prioritize tasks.
  • Work well in a sometimes hectic environment.
  • Have good communication skills: orally and written.
  • Have a basic understanding of computers and software: MS Office, Word/Excel.
  • Be familiar with social media platforms—Facebook, Instagram, Twitter.
  • Be able to work well with a team or independently.
Position Description

Basics duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating meetings, taking minutes and managing calendars.
  • Issuing and ensuring all contracts issued and completed.
  • Running errands for productions and office.
  • Carrying out background research, documenting, and presenting findings.
  • Completing reports, presentations and ensuring information is complete and well prepared to support directors.
  • Building spreadsheets and tracking items as needed.
  • Carefully tracking budgets for productions.
  • Answering phones and emails, general inquiries.
  • Maintaining membership database and renewals.
  • Assisting with program development.
This is a staff position:
  • 20hrs/week $15/hr with more hours as production volume increases.
  • Flexible hours, mostly days, some evening and weekends may be required. Occasionally working from home may be an option.
