About Us

Nantgarw China Works Trust is an independent charity responsible formaintainingand operating a200-year oldpotterysite,famous for making Nantgarw porcelain in the early 1800s. Today it is a museum, visitor attraction and learning space delivering aprogrammeof heritage craft workshops inspired byour past but very much looking to the future.

The Trustis currently made up of a Board of Trustees who are actively involved in the management of thecharity, onefull-time member of staff and three self-employedartist-tutors. In addition, we have around 40registeredvolunteers as well asa number ofexternal tutors and facilitators who use the site.

About the role

We are currently looking for an Events Assistant
to supportourprogrammeofclasses, workshops, groupvisitsand open days.

This is anewroleand you willinitiallybe working closely with the manager and liaising withacommunityof volunteers and freelancers toensure our calendar of activities runs smoothly.

The role would suit someone who iswellorganisedandaself-starter.

You are likely tobe someone who enjoys being part of a community andlooks and listens carefully to finda suitableapproachto tasks.

This is a hands-on role and soit’simportant that you aremotivatedto work on site as well as doing some work from home.

Job purpose

To support the planning,promotion and delivery of eventsandactivities,ensuringa high‑quality experience for attendees and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities
  • Assist with planning and delivery of in‑person events includingcraft workshops, group visits, opendaysand learning sessions.
  • Work withother staff, freelancers, andvolunteersto ensure that resources are in place such asroom layouts,equipment,catering requests,andAVequipment.
  • Manage online event listings and ticketing through Ticket Tailor.
  • Update event information on the website using

    WordPress.
  • Schedule and send email campaigns and attendee updates using Mail Chimp.
  • Use Microsoft 365 (especially

    Outlook, SharePoint, Excel,andWord) to coordinatebooking calendars andmaintainaccuraterecordsandfiles.
  • Support the museum manager withsomemarketingand communications
  • Act as a first point of contact for event enquiries by email and phone
  • Assist with on‑the‑day event delivery at some events: setting uptables and chairs,registration, handlingqueries and liaising withother staff,freelancersandvolunteers.
  • Helpmonitorattendance,collect and collatefeedback(paper and digital records)
  • Be aware of GDPR requirements in relation to holding personal data
  • Provide occasional cover for museum front of house, as necessary
Essential skills and experience
  • Experience supporting events,administrationor customer‑facing activities (paid, voluntary or placement).
  • Confident using Microsoft 365or the ability to learn new digital tools quickly.
  • Experience using at least one ofthe following: a ticketing/CRM platform (e.g.Ticket Tailor), an email marketing system (e.g.Mail Chimp) or a content management system (e.g.Word Press).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with good attention to detail andaccuratespelling and grammar.
  • Strongorganisationalskills, able to manage multiple tasks, meetdeadlinesand follow processes.
  • A proactive, flexible approach and willingness to support occasional early morning,eveningor weekend events (with time off in lieu as agreed).
  • Commitment to providing an inclusive, welcoming experience forfreelancers,volunteers and visitors.
  • Experience of working in a cultural,educationalor community setting.
  • Ability to work fluently in the Welsh language
  • An interest in at least one aspect of the Trust’s work (arts, crafts, heritage, museums, community)
