The Department of Labor & Industry, Unemployment Compensation Board of Review (UC ) Hermitage Referee Office is seeking a highly motivated and organized professional to provide essential support for referee staff in the processing of unemployment compensation appeals. This role involves handling complex legal issues and requires dedication, a positive attitude, and excellent organizational skills.

In this role, you will provide support to an Appeals Referee and the UC referee office through a wide range of duties involving hearings, decisions, public contact, and additional office functions.
Responsibilities- Manage the referee’s hearing schedule and ensure incoming dockets are properly associated.
- Process incoming documents and prepare hearing notices.
- Transcribe decisions from recordings and type and proofread these documents, ensuring that all issues of law and weeks of benefits are covered and that the order and disposition relate to findings of fact and reasoning.
- Handle telephone calls, emails, and in person visitors seeking information about substantive or procedural matters; assist Referees in answering correspondence and processing legal documents such as requests for continuances, withdrawals, subpoenas, and interpretation.
- Independently make decisions to ensure all work is completed in accordance with UC law, regulations, and the Referee’s parameters.
- Maintain timely operations and minimize workflow delays or disruptions.

Work Schedule and Additional Information- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Work hours may be negotiable with a 30-minute lunch break.
- Telework:
You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week, upon successful completion of the training period. Telework requires a securely configured high-speed internet connection and a location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you may report to the Hermitage headquarters office. Telework is subject to change. - Salary:

- One year as a Legal Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration);
or - Four years of responsible clerical, investigative or enforcement work including one year of legal clerical support experience;
or - An equivalent combination of experience and training.
