- Collections Assistant (WINTER WORK STUDY ONLY) Job Summary
Must be eligible for Work Study Winter 2026. This is a position with an off campus agency as a Collections Assistant which is a support role within the Collections Department. The Collection Assistant will work closely with the Collections Manager and other staff to support projects that improve the preservation, storage, display of historic collections within the museum.
Responsibilities- Flexible schedule, approximately 8 hours per week.
- Supports collections care, archival and collections management projects.
- Documentation and data entry.
- Research.
- General Duties:
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment within collection storage and work spaces.
- Adhere to all museum policies and procedures, particularly those related to collections security and safety.
- Participate in departmental meetings and training sessions as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Collections Manager.
- Valid Michigan's Driver's License and successfully pass a background screening.
- Must be eligible for Work Study Winter 2026.
- Education:
This position is designed for undergraduate students interested in pursuing a career in museums. - Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
- Ability to lift and move objects up to 40 pounds, climb ladders, and work in various environmental conditions.
- Knowledge of museum ethical standards and best practices in collections management.
Prior experience using computers and other office equipment is recommended.
Modes of Work- Onsite:
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan. - Hybrid/mobile/remote:
