Job Description

Hennepin County District Court welcomes qualified applicants for a Court Operations Associate position in the Criminal Specialized Unit within the Criminal Division. The Criminal Specialized Unit values and invests in the professional development of staff, commits to providing justice to the public, and continuously strives to evolve.

Court Operations Associates work individually and in teams using independent judgment along with available resources to perform a variety of administrative assignments. Court Operations Associates in the Criminal Specialized Unit interact with a wide variety of court customers and stakeholders including community members, judges, law enforcement officials, and attorneys.

The Criminal Specialized Unit supports all teams within the Criminal Division, handling operational tasks such as processing bail studies, continuance requests, search warrants, and accepting electronic filings. This is an evolving unit that has centralized work throughout the Criminal Division.

The Criminal Specialized Unit works primarily remote.

Example of Duties
  • Collaborate with Judicial Officers, Court Reporters, Prosecutors, Defense Attorneys, Probation Officers, and Law Enforcement
  • Reschedule court hearings and send notices to parties/attorneys
  • Perform high-level case processing, data entry, and financial transactions utilizing court technology systems
  • Coordinate and communicate with team members to ensure daily work assignments and case processing are completed efficiently and accurately
  • Review and process court filings for timeliness, statutory compliance, and proper document security as required by local and court-wide policies and procedures
  • Assist court customers in a professional, courteous, and respectful manner to ensure the customer's needs are effectively met in-person, over the phone, or through electronic means
Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of relevant job experience OR equivalent amount of post-high school education and experience totaling one year.
    • Examples of relevant job experience: customer service, administrative work, office, and clerical work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of customer service and/or administrative experience
  • Experience in a legal setting such as a courtroom clerk, paralegal, or legal assistant, with a background in preparing, analyzing, and processing legal documents
  • Experience with electronic document applications, workflow queues, and web-based video audio platforms
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to continuously learn and retain new material, concepts, and ongoing procedural changes
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience providing exceptional customer service while working under pressure in a high volume, fast paced environment
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to lean other job-related software
  • Ability to process financial transactions accurately with an eye for detail
  • Skill in resolving difficult situations and interpersonal conflicts in a respectful and courteous manner
  • Ability to work in an inclusive, multicultural, and multi-generational environment that values diversity
  • Self-motivated and able to organize workload, set priorities, and meet deadlines
Supplemental Information Logistics

The Criminal Specialized Unit is primarily remote. Team members are expected to come into the office for 3 days every 9 weeks. The home office for this team is located in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota at 6125 Shingle Creek Pkwy, Suite 200 (first floor). The courthouse has free parking available and is located near major freeways making for a convenient commute. The core hours for this position are 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday, but may vary…
