Overview

$6 Billion Global Retail, Distribution, and E-Commerce Company is looking for it's next Senior Accountant with relatively quick promotion to Assistant Controller for one of their Heritage Retail Brands subsidiaries based on South Beach. Right now is an exciting time with this client, as they are poised for significant growth over the next 2-4 years, as they are in acquisition mode and just acquired a very large new Luxury Retail Brand and there is another acquisition in sight.

The incumbent will get to be a part of this growth with a ton of exposure on the team and in the business. Microsoft Dynamics 365 has just been implemented and would like someone with the experience, but if not, just experience with a sophisticated Accounting Software package will work.

This position come with the opportunity to work from home at least 2 days a week, and report directly to the Controller with opportunity to promote to Assistant Controller after mastery of the complex close process.

As the Senior Accountant, you will assume a pivotal position in our client's organization, taking on the primary responsibility for maintaining the general ledger, recording journal entries, performing account reconciliations, maintaining product costing management, month close and year-end close responsibilities, and supporting the Corporate Controller in any accounting or reporting function as needed. In conjunction with the Corporate Controller, this role shares responsibility for maintaining an accounting system that properly reflects the financial position of the company, applies Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, follows department policies and procedures, and implements improvements.

This position will also get exposure to operational accounting, tax and compliance activities.

In this role, you will be expected to leverage your deep understanding of Accounting best practices and industry trends to develop and implement strategies that optimize our client's financial performance. By closely monitoring key accounting indicators, you will provide insightful analysis and recommendations to leadership, contributing to informed decision-making and the achievement of our client's business objectives.

• Lead month end, and year end close, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
• Identity and resolve accounting issues on an ongoing and timely basis
• Assist with system improvements, automation initiatives, implementation of new processes and procedures as needed
• Ensure timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with US GAAP and support internal and external audits
• Partner with the Billing team to identify and resolve EDI issues and other billing discrepancies
• Work with offshore teams to accurately record customer payments along with deductions and allowances and assist with their inquiries
• Provide daily guidance to offshore Staff Accountants, review their work, and maintain deliverable quality
• Collaborate with Accounts Payable to ensure accurate invoice coding and resolve vendor questions and discrepancies
• Support related in our office and across the US locations, including intercompany transactions and reconciliations
• Manage sales tax filings through Avalara, respond to notices from state authorities, and prepare data for federal and state tax filings in coordination with tax advisors
• Assist the Controller with compliance, internal control documentation, and other regulatory requirements
• Identify and implement opportunities to automate manual accounting tasks and improve process efficiency
• Support enhancements, configurations, and effective use of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations

• Minimum of a Bachelors in Accounting, Masters degree preferred
• 2+ years of experience as a Senior Accountant, or 3+ years of audit experience (Big 4 or large regional firm preferred), or mix of audit and industry experience
• Strong understanding of US GAAP
• Experience managing recurring accounting processes
• Strong communication skills and ability to work cross functionally

• Exposure to sales tax, compliance, or working with tax advisors
• Experience collaborating with offshore accounting teams
• Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookups
