Staff Accountant

Description

We are seeking an Entry Level Accountant for a non-profit organization located in Downtown Pittsburgh. This role will primarily focus on fiscal operations and daily accounting responsibilities. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful programs supporting the Pittsburgh community. A degree in Accounting is required!

Key Responsibilities:

- Respond promptly and professionally to inquiries from other departments and outside vendors related to financial transactions

- Prepare accurate and timely bank reconciliations.

- Generate and distribute invoices and support online purchasing and invoicing activities.

- Maintain and update financial and accounting policies, procedures, and manuals to ensure ongoing compliance with state and federal regulations.

- Support internal and external audits by gathering and providing required information as directed.

- Address payroll, time and attendance questions, resolve errors, lockouts, and tax inquiries; monitor payroll system messages and assist with setup of new tax codes.

- Assist in payroll audits, including unemployment compensation review, and enter short-term disability payments into the payroll system, verifying with HR as needed.

- Maintain detailed payroll records, enter monthly payroll data into Excel, and upload benefits and deductions to the accounting system.

- Oversee multiple federal and state grants or awards to ensure regulatory and contractual compliance for both the organization and subrecipients.

- Manage financial reporting requirements.

- Support grant administration, including preparation of budgets, contract review, cost allocation, budget analysis, and proper invoice coding.

- Perform other related duties or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 1 year of accounting experience, preferably in nonprofit or grant-funded environments.

* Candidates with a strong internship and a recent college degree will also be considered.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required.

Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

Strong organizational and communication skills.

Work Environment & Benefits:

Hybrid schedule: approximately 3 days per week onsite and 2 days are remote

Hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm (40 hours/week, non-exempt).

Requirements

- At least 1 year of accounting experience, preferably within nonprofit or grant-funded organizations. (Candidates with a degree a strong internship in accounting will also be considered!)

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

- Proficiency in accounting software, with experience in Blackbaud and ADP Payroll systems considered a plus.

- Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines independently.

- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members.

- Familiarity with general ledger and journal entry processes.

- Knowledge of sales tax compliance and reporting.

- Ability to work in a hybrid environment with a blend of onsite and remote work.
