General Accountant (Administrative)

Job Summary:
This position is responsible for performing basic and specialized accounting procedures in coordination with other accounting functions with the department.
Work Location:
Holland, Michigan. This is an office-first position with the potential for intermittent remote work following successful job orientation (typically three to six months).
- Prepare various operational analyses and reconciliations on various business segments.
- Prepare lead schedules and assemble documentation for annual financial audits. li>Analyze intercompany accounts/transactions and prepare related adjusting/clearing entries.
- Assist in preparation of monthly financial statements.
- Prepare HBPW's annual budget including all related documents and statements.
- Provide managers with information to assist in the budgeting process.
- Produce final budget documents for presentation to the Board.
- Prepare annual Bond Continuing Disclosure statements.
- Prepare and respond to a variety of utility industry surveys.
- Maintain fixed asset subsidiary system.
- Reconcile bank statements.
- Provide leadership and backup for Accounts Payable, Billing and Payroll staff.
- Perform all other tasks as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or equivalent education and experience.
- At least five years' experience in accounting.
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and financial applications.
- Ability to understand and assume responsibility of the preparation and presentation of annual budgets.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with various levels of organizational personnel.
- Strong analytical skills.
- At least ten years of accounting experience.
- Working knowledge of government accounting principles.
- Experience with Multiview, Kronos, and/or Northstar.
- Experience with electric or water utility billing and customer information systems.
- Effective workplace skills as demonstrated through Work Keys assessments (Workplace Documents - 5, Applied Math - 5, Graphic Literacy
- 5).
- Normal office environment with minimum discomfort due to noise, dirt and dust.
- Mental ability to frequently handle pressures related to working on multiple projects requiring attention to detail.
