We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accountant / Accounting Assistant to support our finance team and help ensure accurate, timely, and transparent financial processes. This role is essential to maintaining the strength of our organization as we continue to serve students and families across Dallas.
Key Responsibilities Accounts Payable- Process daily accounts payable transactions: download, code, and enter invoices into Quick Books, route for approvals, and schedule payments.
- Respond to vendor and staff inquiries regarding accounts payable.
- Maintain vendor files, including W-9s, preparation of annual 1099 forms and contracts.
- Record and track incoming payments (donations, grants, checks, EFTs).
- Ensure proper coding and allocation of revenue, including restricted funds.
- Support preparation of donor/grant financial reporting.
- Reconcile monthly bank and credit card statements.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations (prepaids, accruals, deferred revenue, etc.).
- Assist with preparation of monthly financial reports for leadership and board.
- Assist the Director of Finance with month-end close activities, including journal entries and reconciliations.
- Support preparation of the annual budget, including data gathering and entry.
- Compile and maintain audit documentation; prepare schedules and respond to auditor requests.
- File and maintain accounting documentation in compliance with policies and audit standards.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP standards and nonprofit reporting requirements.
- Perform data entry and clerical tasks to support smooth operations.
- Support additional organizational initiatives and projects as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience in a nonprofit environment, working independently with full-cycle accounting functions.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency with Quick Books and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel for financial analysis and reporting.
- Excellent analytical skills to review financial data, identify discrepancies, and prepare clear reports.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in preparing and verifying financial documents.
- Clear and professional communication skills, with the ability to effectively support both vendors and staff.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and responsibilities.
- Familiarity with nonprofit tax regulations, reporting requirements, and budget development processes.
