This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.
DEPARTMENT: Finance
HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
LOCATION: 632 W. 6th Avenue Suite 530
Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.
Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

ResponsibilitiesMaintain thorough review and guidance to various departments a complete accounting for Municipal funds in accordance with governmental accounting standards and in regard to Municipal policy and procedures. Maintain complete accounting records, financial reports, schedules and summaries for funds for the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). Works closely with departments, Senior Staff Accountants, and Finance Supervisors to complete the ACFR. Provide training to various departments for the SAP modules.
Provide backup support to other Senior Staff Accountants. Perform assigned reconciliations of various funds and accounts. Works closely with departments to maintain accounting records and prepare financial reports, schedules and summaries for multiple funds. Perform critical and frequently complex monthly reconciliations. Analyze monthly accounts for errors or unusual balances, research problem areas by interfacing with multiple Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) departments and prepare correcting entries to bring financial accounts into compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Research proper accounting for unusual or unique transactions. Contribute to the development and implementation of new procedures, SAP updates or upgrades, policies and training needed to improve financial reporting practices. Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent AND seven (7) years of experience in accounting, payroll, or similar office responsibility.
- Associate's degree in Accounting, Economics, Management, Business Administration or a related discipline AND five (5) years of professional accounting work experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Economics, Management, Business Administration or a related discipline AND three (3) years of professional accounting work experience.
- A certificate as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) AND three (3) years of professional accounting work experience.
- Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history.

Military Service Interview PreferenceVeterans who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, recognizing the person as a veteran.
