Overview
Job Title: Accounting Operations Specialist
Reports To: Manager, Accounting Operations
Positions Supervised: N/A
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Summary: The accounting specialist is responsible for completing a variety of clerical accounting tasks to support the function of the Credit Union’s accounting department.
Essential Job FunctionsThe intent of this job description is to provide a representation of the types of duties and level of responsibilities required of this position and is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills. Team members may be directed to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically stated in this description.
- Prepares and records journal entries for member accounts including wire transfers.
- Handles reviewing entries and balancing of all wires for loan disbursements.
- Accounts for all computer generated corporate and money orders that are voided, stopped or replaced.
- Ensures appropriate documentation for each item has been received.
- Reconciles in house and specific general ledger accounts.
- Reconciles other balance accounts assigned.
- Ensures integrity in the accounting and reporting of cash settlements with third-party processors.
- Ensures all data is appropriately reported in financial statements.
- Serves as backup for ACH processing, check processing and accounts payable processing.
- Assists with special projects related to the accounting function.
- Ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations, to include the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), the Patriot Act, and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
- Prepares and records entries for employee and board of directors’ reimbursements.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
- High school diploma
- Minimum of 1-year related experience
- Associate degree in accounting or a related field preferred
A representation of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform this job competently.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of accounting regulatory environments to include the BSA, Patriot Act, and OFAC.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce high quality work.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in normal office working conditions.
- This position will be eligible to work from home up to 4 days per week with the expectation of in-office business hours as needed, to include team meetings and team building sessions.
