Senior Staff Accountant Position Description
The Senior Staff Accountant manages financial accounting tasks related to construction projects, including financial reporting, cost analysis, and budgeting. Ensure accuracy in financial data, maintain internal controls, and support the accounting team. Key responsibilities include monthly close processes, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance analysis.
Duties & Responsibilities Financial Reporting and Analysis- Assist in preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Prepare monthly WIP reports.
- Conduct variance analysis to identify discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
- Review and reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly.
- Monitor and eliminate internal and intercompany transactions.
- Ensure accurate recording of all financial transactions in accordance with GAAP.
- Assist in month‑end and year‑end closing processes.
- Prepare annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
- Monitor actual performance against budget and report significant variances.
- Provide financial insights to support decision‑making and strategic planning.
- Maintain daily cash flow reports and reconcile to general ledger monthly.
- Reconcile accounts receivable and accounts payable balances.
- Manage cash flow by monitoring collections and payments.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with audits and provide necessary documentation to auditors as needed.
- Monitor and report on construction asset performance.
- Ensure proper allocation of costs to expenses and betterments.
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and roll‑forwards; provide schedules for audit, income tax, property tax, and monthly financial reports.
- Ensure proper posting of depreciation and revenues.
- Calculate and record additions and deletions appropriately.
- Prepare monthly sales and use taxes for submission.
- Assist with quarterly tax reporting and filing for federal and multi‑state requirements.
- Assist with tax audits and provide necessary documentation.
- Mentor and support accounting staff on complex accounting issues.
- Collaborate with other departments to align financial goals.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance financial processes and reporting.
- Responsible for company data management and record keeping systems, electronic and hard copy.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Strong time management and organizational skills; able to prioritize and work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential data with tact and professionalism.
- Strong communication skills; maintain positive demeanor with clients, vendors, and staff both written and oral.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Solid understanding of accounting cycles including job costing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and related software.
- Competence in financial and accounting software.
- Strong attention to detail with high accuracy.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
- Progressive accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone to talk and hear.
- This is a non‑exempt, hourly position. The employee must be available to work from 8 am to 5 pm and is expected to work 40 hours each week. This is not a remote or work‑from‑home position.

Salary Range: $75,000 – $85,000
