Location: 100% Remote (must be local to the DC/NOVA area; 1 day/week onsite for mail, check runs, etc.)

Our client is a well-established real estate developer and property management firm seeking a Senior Property Accountant to support a stable and collaborative accounting team. This role will manage the day-to-day accounting for a portfolio of properties, primarily focused on affordable housing, with exposure to residential, retail, and commercial assets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage full-cycle accounting for assigned property portfolio
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and variance analyses
  • Reconcile balance sheet and general ledger accounts
  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations and post accruals
  • Handle debt service payments, owner distributions, real estate taxes, and insurance
  • Prepare replacement reserve and equity schedules
  • Support annual budgeting, reforecasting, and cash flow projections
  • Assist with audits and respond to ownership/investor requests
  • Collaborate closely with regional and property management teams
  • Identify process improvements and handle ad hoc projects as needed
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (U.S.

    -based institution required)
  • 2+ years of property accounting experience (affordable housing required)
  • Experience with Yardi or MRI (Yardi strongly preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, SUMIFs, etc.)
  • Detail-oriented, dependable, and comfortable managing a steady portfolio
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently in a remote environment
