Non Profit Staff Accountant; Remote

Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Contract-to-Hire Staff Accountant for a mission-driven nonprofit organization.

The Staff Accountant will support core accounting functions including accounts payable, general ledger activities, cash management, and journal entries. This role plays a key part in maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling online donations, and supporting month-end and year-end close. The position offers exposure to cross-functional projects and opportunities to contribute to process improvements within a collaborative nonprofit environment.

• Process daily financial transactions and maintain accurate general ledger records
• Manage accounts payable, including vendor setup, invoice processing, and payment support
• Prepare journal entries and support month-end and year-end close activities
• Reconcile bank accounts, cash balances, and online donation activity
• Collaborate with Development, HR, and external partners to ensure financial accuracy
• Support system improvements, special projects, and cross-functional initiatives

• Strong understanding of general accounting principles and GAAP
• Advanced Excel skills with strong attention to detail
• Experience working with accounting software and payment platforms
• Highly organized, collaborative, and effective communicator
• Familiarity with project management tools such as Asana (preferred)
