Title

Interim Accounting Manager

Pay & Contract

Pay: $40-50/hr. based on experience

Contract Length: 26 weeks (could extend longer)

Employment Type:

Full-Time, Exempt

Schedule:

Approximately 40 to 50 hours per week, Monday through Friday

Location:

Geneva, NY (Hybrid or remote work may be considered following on-site orientation, with ongoing availability for on-site work as required)

Overview

This role provides leadership and operational oversight of the accounting function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and effective team management. The Interim Accounting Manager plays a critical role in maintaining fiscal integrity while supporting departmental and organizational objectives.

Education Requirements
  • Required:

    Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a closely related field
  • Preferred: CPA or CPA-eligible
Experience Requirements
  • Required:
    • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience
    • Demonstrated supervisory experience, including training, coaching, and developing staff
  • Preferred:
    • Prior experience within a healthcare or hospital environment
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including month-end close, financial reporting, and account reconciliations
  • Recommend, implement, and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures in accordance with GAAP
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, reports, forecasts, and projections
  • Lead, develop, and manage the accounting team by determining staffing needs, assigning workloads, setting performance goals, and resolving operational issues
  • Interview, select, train, coach, and evaluate direct reports while fostering a constructive and collaborative work environment
  • Participate in the development and management of Fiscal Services department budgets and support the Health System annual budget process
  • Perform in-depth financial analysis and provide actionable recommendations for operational and financial improvements
  • Support process improvement initiatives, documentation efforts, and special accounting projects as assigned
Skills and Competencies
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and accounting best practices
  • Proficiency with accounting systems and financial reporting tools
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to clearly communicate findings and recommendations
  • Exceptional organizational, leadership, and time-management abilities
  • High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • PC proficiency required, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
Behavioral Characteristics and Required Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or closely related field, required
  • Five or more years of accounting and financial reporting experience, required
  • Prior supervisory experience, including training and development of team members, required
  • Healthcare accounting experience, desired
