Remote Work Eligibility

With supervisor approval, incumbents may be eligible for intermittent remote work; however, they must physically reside within the Sacramento region or have the ability to regularly report to a City of Sacramento physical worksite with little notice.

Position Overview

The Department of Public Works, Parking Services Division, is seeking an Accounting Technician to assist the Fiscal Team. The role involves tracking, reconciling, and recording revenues for various business lines, issuing monthly billing, preparing financial reports, providing customer service, and gathering data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Track, reconcile, and record revenues across business lines.
  • Create and issue monthly billing statements.
  • Prepare financial reports and maintain ledgers and journals.
  • Provide customer service and respond to inquiries on accounting transactions.
  • Identify and resolve accounting inconsistencies, determining corrective entries.
  • Prepare State, Federal, and local claims, statements, and reports.
  • Coordinate accounting activities with other City departments, divisions, and sections.
  • Assist in maintaining an accounting system and perform paraprofessional accounting duties.
  • Provide data on monies due, collected, and delinquent for accounting information and annual auditor reports.
  • Prepare and submit accounting information for data processing; reconcile differences with data processing reports.
Supervision

Receives direction from a Senior Accounting Technician, professional or management personnel. May indirectly supervise accounting clerical and general clerical positions.

Knowledge Required
  • Principles and practices of financial record keeping.
  • Basic accounting principles.
  • Modern office procedures and equipment.
Abilities
  • Understand and interpret the principles, laws, and procedures involved in fiscal record keeping and accounting functions.
  • Prepare financial reports and maintain ledgers and journals.
  • Analyze data and draw logical conclusions.
Experience and Education

Any combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
Typical qualifications include:

  • Three years of increasingly responsible experience in maintaining financial, fiscal, and related statistical records.
  • Specialized courses in accounting and business practices.
Proof of Education

Education used to qualify must be supported by university/college transcripts and degree certificates. Unofficial documents and/or copies are acceptable. Applications with education obtained outside the United States must provide evaluated credentials by an accredited evaluation service. Evaluation of education records is due upon appointment.

Probationary Period

Employees must complete twelve (12) months of probation at a satisfactory performance level prior to gaining permanent status.
