Staff Accountant – Contract to Hire in Chesapeake, VA
Responsibilities- Conduct monthly financial statement reviews to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare and complete monthly general ledger reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts.
- Assist with month‑end close activities, including journal entries and variance analysis.
- Maintain organized and well‑documented work papers supporting all reconciliations.
- Identify discrepancies and work cross‑functionally to resolve issues promptly.
- Support annual audits by preparing schedules and providing documentation as needed.
- Assist with process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy within the accounting function.
- 1–3+ years of accounting experience with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- Proficiency in Quick Books Online.
- Intermediate Excel proficiency, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in property management or real estate.
- Understanding of CAM (common area maintenance) charges.
- Experience transitioning from Quick Books Desktop to Quick Books Online.
- Experience with tax preparation support and year‑end filings.
- Experience working with trusts or multi‑entity structuring.
The work schedule is from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm with a 30‑minute lunch break. Once trained, you will have the opportunity to work from home on Fridays, typically after the first or second month. While on contract, you will enjoy 6 paid holidays per year and 1 week PTO accrued annually. Upon permanent employment, you will benefit from a competitive salary, a 401K program with annual match, medical insurance (company covers 70%), vision and dental insurance, and 40 hours of paid vacation after 6 months.
