Position OverviewThe Senior Property Accountant I ensures financial statements for our portfolio are completed timely and accurately, reviewing daily transactions for compliance and assisting property management teams with annual budgets and operating expense reconciliations. The role offers a defined career path, mentorship, training resources, and a hybrid or remote work schedule within a company that recognizes the contribution of property accounting.
Primary Responsibilities- Provide internal and external reporting of portfolio financial results, preparing monthly financial statement packages for clients.
- Create and post journal entries, fixed‑asset depreciation, amortization schedules, and perform in‑depth reviews of general ledger, income statement, bank statement reconciliations, property manager variance comments, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Work with property management personnel to analyze financial performance and maintain frequent verbal and written communication.
- Interact with clients on basic/intermediate issues, escalating complex issues to supervisors.
- Support the budgeting process and expense reconciliation, reviewing data at a basic to intermediate level with limited direction.
- Prepare recurring and ad‑hoc reports and analyses with limited direction.
- Act as an internal and external customer‑service leader, assisting supervisors and managers with complex issues.
- Share knowledge with team members and serve as a resource to fellow property accountants.
- Prepare and submit sales and use‑tax returns, as applicable.
- Manage and review cash accounts for each project/property, ensuring timely payment of utilities, taxes, mortgages, and owner distributions.
- Review and post cash receipts and payables, processing vendor invoices for payment.
- Ensure compliance with SOC 1 requirements.
- Perform additional projects and duties as assigned.
- 3–8 years of related accounting/reporting experience.
- Real estate industry experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated quantitative analytical and accounting skills commensurate with experience level.
- Intermediate understanding of accounting principles and ability to apply them to job assignments.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with ability to interact with clients and team members.
- Self‑motivated, able to multi‑task and thrive in a deadline‑oriented environment.
- Initiative in routine problem‑solving and ability to present solutions for review.
- Intermediate competence in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
- Yardi and/or MRI intermediate experience is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
- Accounting classes and accounting work experience required.
