Essential & Related Job Functions
Seeking students and adults with sports knowledge and leadership skills! The City of Onalaska is hiring a Program Leader and an Assistant Program Leader. Under the supervision of the Recreation Manager/Coordinator, the employee is responsible for the overall direction and oversight of recreation programs. The employee provides independent direction to staff, coaches, volunteers, umpires/referees, and spectators concerning program plans, structures, team selection, rule interpretation, schedules, equipment needs and use, and participant safety.
EssentialJob Functions
- Develops and implements meaningful practice and lesson plans.
- Teaches participants the rules and regulations of the activity/sport or program.
- Leads tryouts, practices, evaluates participant skill levels, and develops teams.
- Develops program roles and guidelines.
- Distributes and collects program materials such as equipment, forms, uniforms, and schedules.
- Sets up and cleans up facilities.
- Reports injuries, facility hazards, and program concerns to Supervisor.
- Responds to accidents and emergencies appropriately, administering first aid per training and the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Completes incident and accident reports as required.
- Maintains equipment in good condition.
- Attends and runs program training and organizational meetings.
- Maintains communication with program participants, staff, and office staff.
- Supervises seasonal or part‑time program staff, ensuring proper instruction and supervision.
- Resolves conflicts or problems that arise during program operation.
- Contributes to a cooperative working effort by performing other job‑related work as.
- Other duties as required or assigned.
Wage range for these seasonal, limited‑term positions is $13.00 to $17.00 per hour depending on qualifications, budget, and/or position. There are no benefits associated with limited‑term positions.

Requirements Of Work (Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities)Student or adult with sports knowledge, supervision and leadership techniques/skills, experience playing/coaching or participation in a similar program. Valid driver’s license with a good driving record. Work with minimal supervision. High School diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
