About the RoleAs a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse), you will determine donor eligibility, manage donor adverse events, review laboratory test results, and notify donors of unsuitable test results. You will work under the guidance of the Center Manager (or Assistant Manager), and the Center Physician for medical issues. You will be familiar with regulations of the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing environment.
You will follow guidance from Bio Life Medical Affairs and provide center‑level support for environmental, health and safety (EHS).
- Determine donor eligibility; manage informed consent, AIDS education, self‑exclusion, medical history interview, acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing serological protein electrophoresis (SPE).
- Evaluate donor reactions and follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including developing the Center Physician's standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
- Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs when providing unacceptable findings to donors or medical/technical guidance.
- Support the Hepatitis B and seasonal flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
- Manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER, referring to EHS guidance.
- Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations of pandemic threats within the local community.
- High school diploma or equivalent; graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements
- Currently licensed/certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: EMT‑Paramedic
- Current CPR and AED certification
- Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy
- Satisfactorily complete FDA‑approved training requirements for Bio Life Medical Support Specialist
- Two years in a clinical or hospital setting
