Job DescriptionThe Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is seeking a dedicated and hardworking team player to join us in our mission to enhance the quality of life for Nebraskans by building and maintaining a convenient, safe, and innovative statewide transportation system!
Pay rate of $19.941 per hour. Proficiency and certification in the operation of heavy highway maintenance equipment will result in eligibility for promotion to a Highway Maintenance Worker/Senior at $21.470 per hour.
Pay Differentials- $1/hour after 1 year of continuous service
- $1/hour after 3 years of continuous service
- $1/hour after 5 years of continuous service

Job Duties- Operate trucks and other light equipment to complete highway maintenance work.
- Operate heavy equipment to maintain highways and highway right of way.
- Operate post drivers for the installation of signs, fences, guardrails, and other hand-held power and manual tools.
- Perform manual labor for concrete and bituminous patching and sealing of cracks in highways and structures.
- Perform varied maintenance functions such as spot patching.
- Manually provide highway traffic control for construction and maintenance projects according to safety procedures.
- Complete routine and general maintenance and mechanic repair on equipment.
- Repair highway signs.
- Perform snow removal.
- Load and unload materials and supplies.
- Operate heavy highway maintenance equipment.
- May apply chemicals of selective and non-selective herbicides spray to the highway right of way.
- Possibility of working night shift from April 15 through October.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Highway Maintenance Worker:
Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license. - Highway Maintenance Worker/Senior:
Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license, and possession of a Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes and tanker endorsements is required within 60 days of employment.
- Experience in the operation of heavy equipment or farming background.
- A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement.
- Commercial Pesticide applicator's license.
- Basic computer experience.
A Valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License with O Restriction and tanker endorsement is required within 90 days of hire through our in-house CDL training program. Costs to obtain the permit will be paid for by the Department. Must be able to be placed on-call and respond accordingly during non-scheduled work hours including holidays and weekends for emergencies and special events.
Work is performed in adverse weather conditions and during traffic management activities and traffic safety incidents including snow removal, sanding, and de-icing. Regular and reliable attendance is also required. Must be able to report to work for…
