Position Overview

The truck driver is responsible for mobilization of equipment and materials between facilities, job sites, and customers.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
  • Operates truck in safe and professional manner on public highways, roads, in the yard area and at various job sites to deliver materials.
  • Inspects truck and equipment as required at the start and end of each workday, completing the Driver Check‑off Sheet which indicates that all systems are functioning properly.
  • Load and unload variety of equipment and/or materials in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Maintain accurate delivery records and required daily vehicle logs.
  • Keep truck in clean and working order, including basic maintenance. Including cleaning after loads or jobs as required.
  • Assist in operating other DOT vehicles, operating equipment, assisting asphalt crew and other departments as needed.
  • Assists other department staff in performing duties necessary to assure efficiency of operations such as shoveling and raking. Performs general cleaning of work areas.
  • Responsible for the efficient working condition of truck and equipment including perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor.
  • Properly follow all company policies and procedures for safe working procedures and environment. Report any problems to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources.
  • Must meet all eligibility requirements for driving a commercial motor vehicle in interstate commerce as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and the Department of Transportation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education/Experience
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • One to two years CDL driving experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience preferred.
  • Experience in a building materials/construction industry preferred.
Work Requirements
  • Must be 21 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre‑employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker & Combination Vehicle Endorsements and maintain motor vehicle record (MVR) that meets company standards.
  • Must have and maintain a valid DOT Medical Certificate.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and Safety Manuals.
  • Regular, on‑time and consistent attendance is required and must be willing to work nights, weekends, holidays and work away from home when required.
  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA, Company Policy and specific Job Site Requirements.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Ability to operate a Class A Truck with a Tanker Trailer, safely and efficiently under a variety of working conditions.
  • Ability to read and comprehend policies, instructions, site maps, city street maps and other GPS based equipment information.
  • Ability to operate heavy and complex equipment requiring skill and the exercise of independent judgement.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as being able to work independently with attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate, understand and follow in both verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to cope well in stressful environments and communicate professionally.
  • Able to utilize a tablet for load status, time keeping, training and other items.
  • Demonstrated ability to take guidance and direction from a supervisor.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently under a variety of working conditions.
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations and construction sites.
